Preparing Files for Printing:

Please review the following guidelines to ensure that the files you submit to KAB Inc. are useable and will result with the quality you expect.

Software:

• Adobe Illustrator
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Pagemaker
• Macromedia Freehand

• Adobe Acrobat
• Microsoft Word*
• Postscript files

• Claris Works
• Microsoft Works

• WordPerfect**
• Canvas
• Harvard Graphics
• PC Paintbrush

* Four color and Pantone Spot color separations are not available from this program. One color composite printing only.
** You may try to submit files in WordPerfect. We do not guarantee that the files will be read properly by our software.

Compression:
KAB Inc. accepts files in the following compression standards:

• . DD (Disk Doubler)
• .SIT (Stuffit)
• .SEA (Self-expanding archive)
• .ZIP (Winzip/PKZip)

Preparing Documents and Graphics:
• Be sure to double check your files before submission. Check for spelling, names and numbers, punctuation, graphic modes, file formats, layout, etc. You may be charged for any file manipulation that KAB Inc. performs.

• Always try to use the "import/place" feature in your software when including graphics in your documents. If possible, avoid cutting and pasting from one program to another.

• Be sure that all the graphics in your documents are properly linked and updated.

• Graphics for four-color process jobs must be set to CMYK mode in Photoshop before being placed in your documents. Color photos left as RGB will not separate correctly.

• Duotone, tritone, or quadtone photos for four-color process printing must also be changed to CMYK.

• Graphics must be saved at a resolution of 200-300dpi at 100% of the final size.

• Images taken from the internet commonly have resolutions of 72dpi and are not optimized for printing. These images will appear pixelated/blocky when printed. Be sure you have the legal right to use any art you include in your documents.

• Save graphics as EPS or TIFF only.

• Be sure to include all graphics associated with your documents on your disk.

• For Pantone (PMS) spot printing, be sure all the similarly-colored elements of the document are set to just one PMS number versus the different variations in that one PMS color (ex. Pantone 185C, Pantone 185CV, Pantone 185CVC, Pantone 185U, etc.). All items belonging to a particular Pantone number must print on the same separation plate.

• For best results, include composite and color-separated laser proofs with your order.

• Place the main document file in the same folder as all the associated graphics/art.

Preparing Fonts:
• Unless you convert any type into paths, be sure to include all fonts used in your document in your disk(including fonts used in placed EPS images). Put the fonts in a folder.

• Do not use the Style menu in your software to create font effects (ex. Using "Times Roman" and then pressing "B" for bold, "I" for italics, etc.). Instead use the fonts in your Font Menu to render these effects (ex. Using the font "Times Roman Bold Italic"). This will ensure that the fonts will print properly on our high resolution imagesetters.
